چکیده

Topica! tyrosine has been proposed as a tanning accelerator because tyrosine is a precursor of melanin. We tested formulations containing O, 1, and 2% L-tyrosine topically on 14 individuals daily for 28 days. Percutaneous absorption using "C tyrosine was 1.23% in 24 hr. No enhanced pigmentation was clinically evident in any of the subjects. In this study, we were unable to demonstrate that topica! tyrosine enhanced pigmentation. Riassunto

Melanocortin 1 receptor variants: functional role and pigmentary associations.

The significance of human cutaneous pigmentation lies in its protective role against sun-induced DNA damage and photocarcinogenesis. Fair skin and red hair are characterized by a low eumelanin to pheomelanin ratio, and have been associated with increased risk of skin cancer. Cutaneous pigmentation is a complex genetic trait, with more than 120 genes involved in its regulation, among which the m...

A life history perspective on skin cancer and the evolution of skin pigmentation.

The ancestral state of human skin pigmentation evolved in response to high ultraviolet radiation (UVR) stress. Some argue that pigmentation evolved to limit folate photolysis, therein limiting neural tube defects. Pigmentation also protects against sunburn which decreases the efficiency of sweating and potentiates skin infection. Pigmentation increases the efficacy of skin as a barrier to infec...

Skin Pigmentation and Pigmentary Disorders: Focus on Epidermal/Dermal Cross-Talk

Variation in human skin and hair color is the most notable aspect of human variability and several studies in evolution, genetics and developmental biology contributed to explain the mechanisms underlying human skin pigmentation, which is responsible for differences in skin color across the world's populations. Despite skin pigmentation is primarily related to melanocytes functionality, the sur...
